Saturday May 24 was a warm 30C. It started a bit cloudy/hazy but the sun emerged. It was a good day to go to the beach. We took the local bus to the Agios Prokopios beach where we had been earlier in the week. It is about 5.5 km from Naxos Town. Tickets are 2.30 euros one way and the bus is less than one minute from our apartment and only a 15- 20 minute ride.

Sunbeds are still free |
While more people on a Saturday, there were still lots of empty sunbeds |
Definitely more people in the water, which has been warming up during the week. |
Beautiful sand and a bit more wavy today. |
Suns out now |
We stayed at the beach for about 3.5 hours. It was lovely. I spent more time in the water today.
Looking back at the beach as we walked to the bus stop. |
We got out at the bus stop near our apartment and then headed over to the bakery.
Lagogiannis Bakery- lots of Greek treats |
After a rest, we walked down to the area behind the port where we were having dinner at 7:30 p.m.
On the street just behind the waterfront promenade, we passed a Church we hadn't seen before.
Holy Parish Temple of Pantanassa |
Side view of Church |
The narrow streets of the Old Town were busy. All the stores reopen from 6:00 p.m. to at least 9:00 p.m. and we walked by many that had not been open in the late afternoon, when we usually were in the port area.

A make your own profiterole with home-made soft ice-cream |
We got to the narrow entrance to Apostolis, where we were having dinner. We had passed the entrance on our first day but hadn't ventured down the stairs into the main seating area.
Allan pouring the soup. The creamy cheese was in the small dish. A very filling appetizer. |
The main square of the restaurant was quite large and filled up during the time we were there. |
We shared a huge quinoa salad with avocado, lentils, mint, carrots and a lime vinaigrette on the side. |
The main course was pork pancettas with sauce from 4 different peppers and Naxian sour cherry. Served with basmati rice. The pork and sauce were delicious. |
It was a very filling meal. Very innovative twists on traditional Greek cooking. We also had a glass of their house red wine. One thing we have learned on the trip is that the portions are very large! We had also read that house wines are often a very good value in Greece. We decided to try their house wine and were not disappointed.

As we were leaving-- lovely lighting |
Walking back up the stairs to the alley |
We were only a few minutes away from the jewellery store where Allan had bought a necklace earlier this week. It were still open after 9:00 p.m. and we stopped by for a chat. The wife of the jeweller who died last year is also a jeweller, though she says she needs more time than her husband did, to do her pieces.
Lovely rings-- I ended up buying a small wavy ring |
When we first entered the shop |
We had a nice chat and the owner gave us a few of the "eyes of Naxos" small shells to take home. Allan's necklace is an abstract of the eye and my ring represents the waves of the Aegean Sea. As we probably have mentioned, we have seen some incredible jewellery on this trip. Lots of innovation and very good work.
We headed back to our apartment.

Just leaving the Old Town area- lovely lighting and one of the many cats of Naxos Town. |
On Sunday May 25, we are catching the 11:10 Seajet fast ferry to Athens. Our Airbnb host, Eirini is driving us to the port. We should arrive in Athens at around 3:30 p.m.
We have really enjoyed Naxos Town (Chora) and the spectacular beaches and villages of the Island. We highly recommend a visit here. There is so much to do and even without a car, the bus sytem has been excellent. We loved the peace and tranquility of the mountainous villages, and the two very different sandy beaches we visited, as well as the buzzy port and Old Town in Naxos. The people are friendly, the food in Greece continues to be fabulous, and the history is fascinating. See you next in Athens for the last five days of our adventure.
