Tuesday May 27 was another beautiful day with a high of 27C. This is beginning to sound like a broken record but we have had fantastic weather throughout our trip with only a few exceptions (luckily our travel days!). We decided we wanted to stay outside today and explore the Kolonaki district just north of us. It is a fashionable district with lots of small shops and restaurants. Lots of tree-lined streets and flowers. It also contains some great museums, but unfortunately most museums in Athens are closed on Tuesdays (a major reason to make it a day to wander Athens).

Passing interesting relief on a wall |
We passed one of my favourite jewellery stores in the city, where I had purchased a small necklace in 2017. Beautiful window at Katerina Ioannidis and selection of Greek themed pieces done with a modern twist.

We wandered some more, checking out some great specialty food stores. We then went into a cool clothing store, Tephra, which has avant-garde clothes by a number of Italian designers. Tephra had just opened a stand-alone store in Kolonaki, but have been around for 15 years and have a store in Santorini.

Allan and I did a bit of retail therapy. Allan got a pair of cool shorts and I got an interesting top. Prices were quite reasonable. We had a long chat with the sales associate. He told us the name of the store originates from an ancient Greek word meaning volcanic ash and represents creation and transformation. He also suggested the small restaurant across the street for a late lunch. We went to Café G (named after the owner George) and had coffees, a lovely salad and some spring rolls. It was a good choice as other cafés we had passed in a nearby pedestrian street were noisy with lots of people smoking outside.

Very relaxing as windows were open and the street and restaurant were quiet mid-afternoon |

Large metal ants on the wall. Definitely a cool vibe. |
Kolonaki has some lovely large homes and apartment buildings.

Lovely part of central Athens |

Another beauty |
We stopped at a store with some very nice looking gelato. Allan had a wonderful pistachio cone, with lots of real pistachios. There was also a popcorn flavour that looked intruiguing. Unfortunately, they did not have any non-dairy options, so I took a pass.

We headed back from Kolonaki to our Pangrati neighbourhood.

We decided to get a cold drink at Ohh Boy, a very nice café in Pangrati with a lot of vegan options.

I had a homemade lemonade and a large scoop of vegan Madagascar vanilla ice cream. |

Allan had a blueberry smoothie |

Grafitti on one of the buildings we passed |
We stopped at Pnyka Bakery on a side steet and then Stavros Bakery near us to get some treats and a few pices of spanakopita for dinner.
I finally took a picture of our apartment building. We are located over a café called Transit and are the only unit on the third floor.

Perfect signage for Allan |
We had a light meal of fresh tomatoes, spinach pies and some cheese. A piece of orange cake and tea after dinner. Chill day in Athens, though we still did a lot of walking!
